and they can be treated with a filter to shield your eyes from damaging ultraviolet light. The lenses we use are lighter, thinner, and more scratch-resistant than glass or the older plastic types. Polycarbonate lenses block UV rays without an additional coating. We include a scratch-resistance coating to protect the lenses and add an anti-reflective treatment. Polycarbonate lenses cost more, twice as much as standard lenses. That brings Tropical Sunglasses to price.

Polycarbonate Lenses

Polycarbonate is one of the strongest and safest materials on the market.  

These lenses are the most impact resistant lenses available and are the lenses of choice in sunglasses, sports glasses, and safety glasses for eye protection. Polycarbonate lenses always come with a built-in scratch resistant coating, it makes them extremely strong and scratch proof. Optical professionals highly recommend polycarbonate lenses because of the material’s durability, UV protection, and shatter resistance.

Polarized Lenses

Polarized Lenses reduce glare from a surface like water,

improves clarity and contrast and reduces eye fatigue. Driving in bright sunlight becomes easier, but they can make it hard to see the liquid crystal display on your car’s dashboard. By adding a polarized filter to sunglasses there are one or more layers pressed together with a polarized filter in between. Why some polarized sunglasses are  better and more expensive? It depends on quality of the polarized filter, cheap sunglasses claim to offer polarization, but may only block out 10% of reflected glare and quality polarization filter can block out nearly all glare.

Polycarbonate (PC) Versus Acrylic

Polycarbonate and Acrylic are both well-known as transparent plastics.

But which one is right for Your Sunglasses? Polycarbonate has very high transmissivity, it also allows very effectively for the passage of light. Acrylic is less expensive and easier to crack. Polycarbonate has a higher chemical resistance than acrylic. Acrylic is 4x to 8x stronger than glass, while polycarb is about 200x stronger. Polycarbonates are stronger than acrylics but also more expensive. Understanding each a little better can help you decide which material might be best for Your sunglasses. Acrylic lenses are not used in Tropical Sunglasses.

Our lenses absorb all harmful UV light.

Exposure to UV radiation can harm your eyes and affect your vision as well. The UV-B radiations cause most of the damage to our eyes and skin. They cause our skin to tan and are a major cause of cataracts. Finally, UV-A radiations are the least harmful, though they should be filtered whenever possible. Always choose sunglasses that block out 99%-100% of UVA and UVB radiation to ensure that you are protected.
